Of making books there is no end.
Ecclesiastes
I find that it is getting harder and harder to say things in my column that I haven't said before. This may not bother a teacher who can give the same lecture year after year. However, he is giving it to a new group of students each year. All of my essays are available on the internet to anyone with access to it.
Being in my eightieth year, if I missed a column I would expect my few friends to phone me asking if I was all right. At the moment, I am in good shape for an old fart, but that won't last and sometime in the future I will be ill, or die or both. I would like to tell my friends that that if I die, I will let them know. Since that won't work, I say "phone away;" it's nice to know that someone cares.
So, from here on in I will submit a column only when I have something to say.
The Mendocino County Observer will be reprinting old columns when I have nothing new to contribute.
My regular internet readers will simply have nothing in the space where there usually is the date and title of a new column.
